Canyoning
Every trip we do, we HAVE to find a new outdoor adventure that the boys will enjoy! Summer in Japan can be really hot and humid and so this was one adventure to cool down.
We did our tour with the amazing staff at Canyons. We visited their Okutama location, just outside of Tokyo and did their Big Mononoke tour. For information on all their tours and locations see the Canyons site here.

We caught the train from Tokyo to Mitake Station (JR Ome Line) and then had a 20 min walk to Canyons. The walk took us along the riverside where locals were fishing, kayaking and swimming.

We arrived with time to have lunch before the tour. So what’s the best meal to have before a canyoning adventure? A meat and rice ‘Volcano’ of course!
Before we could head off we had a safety briefing and then headed to the change rooms to change into wet suits, shoes and gear which was all provided. We were all loaded into the shuttle bus and driven into the forest and the canyon access point.

The adventure started with an abseil down 25m to the river below. Then we floated down the river and went down rock slides forwards, backwards and in tandem!

There was an optional cliff jump into a deep pool at the end of the canyon. The boys were keen and all survived!

The boys have done canyoning before but I haven’t and we all managed fine. So as long as you have a sense of adventure and at least a moderate level of fitness, you will be able to join in this activity.
