Todai-ji Temple
Todai-ji temple is a wooden Buddhist temple built in 752. The main temple is the largest wooden structure in the world and houses a 15m tall bronze statue of Buddha.
The Nandaimon or Great South Gate leads up to the temple and is guarded by two fierce statues the Ni-o or two kings of Todai-ji.
Location
Todai-ji Temple is located in Nara prefecture, bordering the Kyoto prefecture. Nara is about an hour and a half South of Kyoto or just over and hour East from Osaka.

All ages. Even younger kids will marvel at the huge statues. Leading up to this temple is the Nara Deer Park, combine the two activities for a great day trip from Osaka or Kyoto.
